Dusty Demolition

Dusty Demolition

Today is day 22 and on my lunch break I had to run out to pick up some prints that we had done by a company called Poster Jack. The drive is only about 20 minutes but it was into an area that I have not ventured into before – which in truth is most of Toronto.

As I was getting close, I started to notice that there was a lot of construction going on and that there were a lot of older looking buildings – most in some state of ruin. Luckily there was no traffic and I was able to drive slow to do some sight seeing and location scouting. When I was almost there, I turned a corner and saw this site where they were demolishing an old factory. My interest was peaked when I saw how perfect the lighting looked. The excavator was drilling in the right spot for the dust to fly up and get blasted by the sun, creating this nice stream of light.

I went to pick up our posters and then on the way back stopped to grab a few shots. The excavator moved where it was drilling causing the shot not to be as great as when I was driving in, but I still really like the sunlight and dust.

I used my Canon 7D Mark 1 with a Canon 24-70 F4 L lens at 70mm, shooting at 1/100, F11, with an ISO setting of 100. It was a sunny day when the shots were being taken.
