Bamboo Prison

Bamboo Prison

For day 33, I am doing an archive posting of a shot that I took last Tuesday when I had everything set up for Vahida’s birthday shot. I didn’t have a ton of time today to get out and grab a shot since I was working, and my parents were around. Tonight was dinner at Aunt Pam’s and I debated grabbing a shot while I was there since their place is very nicely designed. Instead I thought I would enjoy the family company and worry about today’s photo once I was home.

Black backgrounds are something that I think Jamie and I both love and over the last few weeks I have taken a lot of photos with it. I love how it makes colours pop, especially when you have vibrant ones such as the bamboo greens. These bamboos are leftovers from our wedding favours. We bought a little more than we needed and ended up with enough to make ourselves a nice arrangement. I grabbed a few to layout and get a shot, that to me looks a little like jail cell bars.

For this shot, I used a flash positioned at the front of the bamboo and shooting down and across it. I had the flash power just high enough to get an even coating of light across the bamboo, but without bleeding down into the background.

I used my Canon 7D Mark 1 with a Canon 24-70 F4 L lens at 70mm, shooting at 1/125, F22, with an ISO setting of 100. I think it was a sunny day for the most part, but this was a studio style shot where I used my flash.
