Day 35 was a crappy day for weather. I was out at a client’s today, and when I got home it was snowing a little, the visibility was pretty low and with the overcast skies, lighting wasn’t great. In lieu of going out for a walk and trying to get a shot of a chickadee or something, I decided to play with lighting a little more. This weekend when we were driving around with my parents, I took them to Henry’s and bought a small flash . Dad didn’t get to buy anything.
One of the heirlooms that I have from the Harris side, is this pair of binoculars that my dad tells me was my great grandpa’s from the war. We have it displayed on the shelf, and I thought I would take them down to be the subject of today’s shot. I used the flash with the soft box as the main light to the left, and then a white card to bounce the light and shine a nice white highlight down the right.
I used my Canon 7D Mark 1 with a Canon 24-70 F4 L lens at 70mm, shooting at 1/80, F7.1, with an ISO setting of 100. It was an overcast day, but this was a studio style shot where I used my flash, soft box and a white card to bounce light.
