I’ll be honest, up until a month ago it never registered to me that “Jay” was a type of bird, and there were variations. Probably because I grew up in the Toronto area, but I just always figured “Blue Jay” was… you know, it.
This is sort of troubling to me, since I saw Hunger Games, which has multiple references to the Mocking Jay (You know, like the title), and it still didn’t click.
All of that ignorance is behind me though, because I’ve finally seen a Steller’s Jay, which is like a Blue Jay, but different, because it’s not a Blue Jay… Even though it’s still pretty blue. It was nice, because for the first time in about 20 years, I could look at a Jay and not instantly associate that image with shame and disappointment.
I wonder if I can find some kind of different Maple Leaf or Raptor to disassociate things.
I got this guy with my 70-200 f4 lens though a thankfully clean window. I shot at 1/100 of a second and an aperture of f4.5. ISO was 200.
