This photo is a little bit of a cheat, because I took it a little while ago. Yesterday, I debated posting this one instead of pulling out the gear. The one thing that stopped me was that I wanted a bright warm shot, and I realized that a black background doesn’t do that. To show the contrast though, I thought I would post this one so you can see the visual difference the background can make.
I took this picture very similarly to how I took yesterday’s but instead of using the flash as a back light I used it how you normally would and with a high F stop to blow the background to black. Once I got to post production though, I realized that the cleanup job I did on the glass was next to terrible and you could see speaks of dust everywhere. One issue with black – it shows everything. It’s a battle I fight daily with the stove top. I decided to take it into Photoshop and fix it up a little and cleanup the black.
I used my Canon 7D Mark 1 with a Canon 24-70 F4 L lens at 70mm, shooting at 1/200, F22, with an ISO setting of 100. I think it was a sunny day for the most part, but this was a studio style shot where I used my flash.
