Orange lamp at night.

Slightly disgrundled lamp

The peachy orange glow from street lamps is my favourite colour. Has been for about 15 years or so. The first time it caught my attention was at a music festival in downtown Burlington when I was still in high school.  As I walked through the crowds at night, and everybody was cast in this soft orange glow, I found it extremely relaxing, as it almost felt like I was walking through a dreamscape.

Since that night I never had to wonder or think about my favourite colour. That day it became streetlight orange, without question.

I look over my balcony some nights with ever growing concern, though, as these lights are getting replaced at an alarming rate. My street now uses LED’s, which are more efficient than the sodium-vapour lamps of yore, though Bloor street at the end of the road is still that nice orange.

Still, it saddens me that time goes by, the orange will continue to decline as the white lights grow. It was never something I imagined as finite. I’ll have to try and make the most of them while they’re here.

I took this with my 24-70mm lens, with a half second exposure time and f6.3 aperture. ISO was 100.
