I decided that I was going to make today all about focus stacking. Seeing Jamie’s fantastic and colourful purple flower shot reminded me that it has been a while since I did anything with flowers. I decided that I needed to go out and buy me a beautiful, colourful flower and get a detailed shot. Soon after that decision, Vahida and I were at Loblaws where they have an entire area of flowers and I suddenly became very cheap. I decided that no, I was not buying a flower and instead I would take a shot of the newly sprouted Lily from our Peace Lily plant.
Once returning home from running our errands, which included a trip to St Michael’s for a stomach ultrasound I had to do, I set about getting a shot of the lily. I wasn’t sure if I was going to go macro, but once I started to frame the shot, I realized that macro was the way to go. This choice meant I would have to focus stack. I got to shooting – and to be honest – I completely lost track of how many shots it took to make this. I will say though, that I overdid it and took way more than needed. I am thinking high 20s to mid 30s – which is clearly overkill.
I used my Canon 7D Mark 1 with a Canon 24-70 F4 L lens on extension tubes at 70mm, shooting at 1/13, F22, with an ISO setting of 100. Today was a bright and sunny day, but the wind had a bit of a nip to it.
