Today I went to Kitchener and it was a lot of driving. After getting home I was exhausted, and proceeded to become a borderline vegetable on the couch. A little while later, I decided that I needed to get up to have a tea and be a productive member of society. As I was making said tea, I was mulling over what today’s shot would be. I knew it was beautiful temperature wise, but not in any other way. Instead I thought I’d do an indoor shot using my new flashes. Glancing around the apartment, Vahida’s popcorn machine grabbed my eye!
Now, I was born with two curses – an addiction to chips from the Nadon side, and an addiction to popcorn from the Harris side. When Vahida and I started to get to know each other, I quickly learned that she too had a salty popcorn addiction. Although she does love chips, popcorn is on the top of her list. Her friends and family all know about this addiction, and over the course of her life she has been given random popcorn related gifts. This air popper was one of those gifts that she got years ago from her sister. It has been used once, and it bought back memories for the both of us about how dry air popped popcorn is. After that use it has become a decoration.
I used my glass side table and taped purple tissue paper to the bottom using double sided tape (which has the words “permanent” on its label) but I will cross that bridge when I come to it. I then set up one flash on each side, with the one on the left being the main at a higher power. The right one was for side fill. I also tried a top light but I wasn’t liking the shadows it caused.
In post, I realized that either from my setup or from some other reason, there is a double reflection. Next time I use this set up I will have to be aware of that.
I used my Canon 7D Mark 1 with a Canon 24-70 F4 L lens at 53mm, shooting at 1/160, F6.3,with an ISO setting of 100. The temperature was great today, but it was raining off and on.
