While on Vancouver Island, I wanted to get a successful round 2 going with the sea lion community, now that I have the mega-compensator 600 lens at my disposal. We went down to the waterfront that was considered a hotbed of sea lion antics, however there was very little to be found in the way of water faring creatures. As we got ready to pack up and leave, an Eagle flew right over us out towards the sea.
After scolding me for excessive swearing, my mom urged me to run after it in case it landed somewhere, so after entrusting my bag to her, I hustled across the waterfront with my big lens in tow, and sure enough, there it was sitting on a big ol’ pole. I immediately took some shots, and then just kept stepping closer and closer getting a shot with each step. It was eyeballing me a bit at first, and then stopped caring pretty quickly.
This made me a very happy boy. Now if only I could get a solid picture of a hawk…
I got this stars and stripes representin’ chunk of majesty with my 150-600mm lens, shooting at 1/800 and f6.3, with an ISO of 400.
