Today I had to go to London for work and I had plans to take some time afterwards to go bird hunting. On the drive there, I was really amazed at the number of Red Winged Black birds that I saw. Not a minute went by that I did not see one and they seemed to oddly like the highway. Once my meeting was done though and I got to the highway, it started to rain. This ruined my go for a drive and get a picture plan, and once I got home, although it wasn’t raining, I was tired and just wanted to get in the door.
I debated doing a studio shot, but instead I am going to post one of the shots I submitted to the Orchid contest. This one isn’t the best of the lot, and oddly, one that did not print very well. On screen I love how vibrant it is and the contrast between the purple, green and yellow. Once printed though, this picture turns out a lot darker and the colours don’t pop as much. As such, screen seems to be the best way to view.
I used my Canon 7D Mark 1 with a Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro that I rented from Vistek, shooting at 2.5 seconds, F16, with an ISO setting of 100. I used a flash to brighten up the background a bit. Today started off looking like it would be sunny, but then turned a little and was overcast and rainy.
