Usually when you make the poor life decision to wander in the woods of urban Nanaimo you just stumble upon a junkie’s fort. Every once in a while though, you get lucky and stumble across some deer in a junkie’s fort.
My mom and I were driving along the main road just south of my parent’s place, when I noticed three deer hanging out in an empty lot. After a brief bout of swearing (which seems to be more common then it should when I’m seeing neat animals with my mother), we finished up our errands and headed back to the house. I promptly grabbed my megazoom and rushed down to the lot in hopes of them still hanging around.
Luck was on my side both in two still remaining, and them seeing enough people passed out in the bushes to not instantly fear humans. This allowed me to hang out with them for a little bit, and get a couple shots in. I didn’t have great positioning for this one and there was a wire in the way, but the lighting and position trumped the other shots, so I’ll just take the hit.
I took this with my 150-600mm lens shooting at 1/400 and f6.3, with an ISO of 800.
