Today was going to be a busy day since we were heading to the Halal Food Festival at the International Centre in Mississauga. Because of this, I decided to head out to the park this morning and see what was out and about. On Google Maps I noticed that there was what looked to be a pond or small lake at Sunnybrook Park. Even though I have been there many times, I had yet to see one, but I know that birds like nice bodies of water and that prospect made me want to find it.
Once I got to the park and the area that the lake was said to be around, I noticed that there was a little turtle chilling in the grass. From what it looked like, he didn’t care about anything other than catching some rays. I spent some time getting a few shots of him, inching my way closer until I was too close for my lens to be able to focus. After I was done with him, I went about finding the lake and as luck would have it, I found a trail that lead into the woods and down to a small lake, that, to be honest, was more like a swamp. In no time, my legs were covered in mosquitoes and there was a swarm around me, but between swatting them away, I noticed that there was a lot of activity around from geese to ducks to turtles. This last one shocked me and I will not lie, because I didn’t know Toronto had a turtle population like this. There were a few logs sticking out of the water, and on each there was one or more of the little guys enjoying the weather. As I was getting feasted on by the bugs, I snapped shot after shot of these cute dudes. There are a few shots that I liked from today, but this is my favourite.
I took this shot with my Canon 7D with a Sigma 80-400mm lens shooting at 1/640 of a second, F7.1 and an ISO of 250. Today was an incredible day up until the point when it started to rain.
