It’s Ramadan! For people who have not done it before, the idea of this sounds crazy, but for those who have, it is an exciting time of year and one that Muslims look forward to. From today until roughly July 18, Muslims around the world will fast during the daylight hours. This year, that is a pretty long time and today is going to be 17.5 hours in total and for the first day, I am pretty tired. I am waiting for Vahida to get home and then we are going to nap to catch up on some sleep and help pass the time.
At lunch today though, to help wake myself up a little, I took a walk and discouvered this little green space near us that I think is going to be great for some birds and wildlife shots. While I was there, I noticed a number of birds and also missed a shot at a rabbit. I had my back to it, and I turned around to watch it jump into the bush. I know he is there though, so I’m going to get this shot!
This is a Common Grackle, which by the name makes you think, oh hey, they must be everywhere they are so common, and that might well be, but this is the first time I have been able to get a shot of one. The thing that drew my attention though is the blue neck. I am posting a shot below that shows the colour a bit better, but doesn’t have all the sass.
I took this with my Canon 7D with the Sigma 80-400mm lens shooting at 1/1600 of a second, F6.3 and ISO 1000. I had to do some post work because I was shooting to fast and the shot was underexposed. Today was a really nice day. It is rumoured to rain.
