Tonight, Vahida and I went out separate ways – her to break fast with some girl friends from mosque, and me to mosque to hang out with the guys. Since we had all day though, we wanted to do something a little special for each gathering. We shot around some ideas and quickly came to the conclusion that she was going to make pretzels, and I was going to make sliders. Now I have never made sliders before, but how hard could it be to make a mini burger.
Waking up this morning, I set about getting my dough ready for the buns. I had success before with burger buns using a cake pan, so thought I would try that again, just this time with smaller buns. Much to my happiness, they turned out really great. If you are looking to make burger buns, it is the way to go. The rest was standard as well. I decided on a 2.7oz patty (before cooking), got the meat seasoned and cooked and then went about prepping the burgers themselves. When we are at mosque to break our fast, you don’t have a lot of time between when you get to eat something and drink some water, and when prayer is, so I didn’t want people to have to fuss around with making a burger – rather just grab and eat. It was this moment though when I realized that the burgers were not so mini. Taking a bite, we all came to see that they were rather substantial but turned out really good. It is always fun to cook while fasting because you are shooting from teh hip is terms of flavour. You can’t taste or sample the food which means you kind of just have to hope. I got lucky.
I took this with my Canon 7D shooting at .4 seconds, F13 and ISO 200. I used the light was the window for some back lite and then a flash on either side to fill in the front. Today was a beautiful day.
