While hanging out in the front yard I saw an ant strutting along the fence to go chat with some other bug that had gnarly spiked legs. I grabbed a shot of him on that journey over.
Getting an ant in motion is a fairly tricky thing to do on an impromptu basis. My suggestion is to focus on the surface more than the subject, and try to stay in front of it. It might take a few tries of leaning forward and back to line up with the subject, but it’s at least a lot easier to figure out where you are, and which direction you need to lean.
I took this with my 90mm macro lens, shooting at 1/250 and f29 with an ISO of 500. I used my flash with a Magbounce overhead to light up the subject.
