Hey, here is a new one. Yesterday, Bryan reminded me that we needed more birds on this here blog.
Today, Vahida and I woke up at 4:30 am, jumped into the car for 6 am and drove to my hometown of Nakina. On the way, I had hoped to see a moose for today’s picture because I heard that there have been a lot of sightings. Unfortunately, the only non-bird animal we saw was a black bear that we almost hit when it decided to run across the road as we were driving. Luckily, we have really good brakes.
Between Hearst and Longlac, there is a stretch of wilderness and not much of anything else, but we happened to spot these interesting fellas there. After some research, we found out that they are called Sandhill Cranes. I had to turn around to go get a shot, and then do a little stalking. Eventually, they flew off and made one hell of a racket.
I took this with my Canon 7D, 1/400 of a second, F8 and ISO 320. Today was mostly a beautiful day, but we hit a lot of rain from time to time.
