Oh dang it’s a Great Blue Heron! And it is either the most loyal Police Heron in the land, guarding a zone for its fellow officers, or it is the biggest degenerate Heron in the land, loitering in a zone that is very clearly marked as being meant for other purposes.
Either way, one thing is certain: At this moment, this is bird property.
I spotted this thing hanging out from the far end of the harbour, and luckily it wasn’t in a rush, so by the time I made it over to get a much better vantage point, it was not only still in the area, but standing directly over the RCMP sign. Trying to huff and puff quietly without throwing up, I frame the shot with the bird lined up right over the sign.
I hung around for a while in hopes of seeing it in flight, but it was pretty relaxed and didn’t seem in a hurry to get anywhere. I got a shot of it walking around with a very “Swiggity Swooty” feel, but that was the extent of our relationship on that day.
I took this with my 150-600mm lens, shooting at 1/1250 and f6.3, with an ISO of 400.
