Seagull looking happy

Oh hey man how are ya?

I think this might be the first Seagull picture I’ve posted this year. I’ve certainly taken a lot, since they’re abundant basically everywhere, but due to their generally terrible nature, I’m often asking myself who would want to look at a picture of these jerks?

Still, every once in a while I get a shot where it isn’t just looking like a rude scavenger or brooding jerk. Sometimes I get a shot where they just look delighted to be here. Case in point, this one hanging out at the waterfront. Sure, it was probably squacking in fury at the lack of food coming out of my camera, but as far as historical evidence (of which this is the only piece) is concerned, this seagull on that particular day was all “Heyyyy! How’ve you been, man? Great to see you!”

I took this with my 70-200mm lens, shooting at 1/125 and f4.5 with an ISO of 100. Fairly slow and wide open for bird stuff, but it was a nice sunny day and the gull was pretty still. Maybe it actually was just super pleased to see me that morning…
