Hey, I think this is my first self portrait this year.
I have this picture that I took a few years ago that I still really like. It was a self portrait that I did when I was living in my old place and the reason why I like it so much is because in the background was my photo wall where I had 60 pictures. I thought it was a really interesting background, but also one that was unique to me. I was the only one with those exact pictures, and they were all mine shots. The issue was that the focus was not 100%. As a profile picture on LinkedIn, you can’t tell at all, but a full size one you can see it is soft.
Today, I thought that I would take some time and try a shot with the city in the background. Part of me thought I should wait until night time and get one with the lights, but that would prove difficult to get a shot with me properly lit up with a flash, and a longer exposure for the lights in the background and not have any blur. I took to some basic portrait lighting, got my remote trigger at the ready, and started to snap away. It took a lot of trail to get the focus point right, and the lighting into the area I was happy, but in the end, I am happy with the result. But I will say I am not AS happy as I am with my old shot. That will be a hard one to beat. I will admit that when I have a brain wave for a new background, I will be posting another shot.
I also learned that I should stand up for portraits, that way there is less chance for any wrinkles in the suit.
Canon 7D, 50mm, 1/60 of a second, F10 and ISO 100. Today was gorgeous out.
