Sparks Flying

One month left. It has really been one hell of a challenge this year, but it is crazy to think there is only 31 days left of pictures. I wanted to try some more match shots today, and my idea was motion. At first I thought I would stand and get a shot of the match lighting and then burning out with a longer exposure, and although this sounded interesting, the long exposure just lead to a bit to much motion with everything being blurred. The second idea was a closer shot of the match being struck and after a few attempts, I got there.

For this shot, I used two tea light candles to help light the shot a little. There was one behind, to the left and up higher than the box, and then another in front and to the right that gave some light to my finger and the front of the box. The next part to this was the lighting of the match. I learned that the way to strike the match gives you different results. If you have things more on an angle, you get less spark and a faster light, if you hold the match straighter and light from the top, you get some interesting sparks and a longer light.

Canon 7D, 1 second, F4 and ISO 100. Today was a little bit chilly.
